The violin is in great original condition.   Circa 1900, There is only one crack that I can find and it is a minor crack, closed and tight, was repaired many many years ago. Other than that the violin is in excellent condition for its age with no other damage or repairs. This is a really beautiful violin made from gorgeous wood , fiddleback wood on sides and back, exhibiting the fantastic hand workmanship of a single expert maker and preserved in magnificient condition. For those who know the quality of fine German violin making, several grades above the commercial factory productions that characterizes most German violins, this violin will stand out from the crowd. It is a Fine piece of work, excuted by a single maker whose lifelong pursuit was Fine violin making and expert repair.  This is a Loud and powerful violin - Brilliant penetrating and resonant. If you are looking for a mellow and sweetly sonorous sound to blend nicely with an orchestra, this is not a good choice. This is a violin that will stand out in any crowd and has the power and response to be heard above a large orchestra and carry to the back of the largest Hall.  But this is not a shrill and strident screech box. The violin has a mature, rounded tone with no harsh edges or nasty wolf tones. The sound is smooth and clean with Bright, ringing overtones and admirable sustain. The violin produces a pure powerful tone with even the lightest touch of the bow and never even hints at collapse when pressed hard. This is a performance tool for the demanding player who needs a quality sound and needs to be heard. This is a Full sized violin.
