The controller is programmable - each of the 8 preset footswitches can turn on any pre-programmed set of effects connected to the loops of the MFX PatchBay with one step.Every preset footswitch can be used in two work modes selected by the MODE DIP switch. When a single mode DIP switch is in the "ON" position then the relevant preset footswitch works as a "normal" preset and activated it turns off the preset activated before. When it is in the "OFF" position a preset footswitch works as an "add-on", which means that it does not affect a preset activated before. Of course no matter if you choose normal or add-on mode, you still be able to pre-program any combination of 8 patch-bay loops on any preset footswitch using the relevant DIP switches. Pressing the “BP” switch ALWAYS switches the MFX Patchbay into Bypass Mode (i.e., all effects are bypassed).Programming is very simple to do using DIP Switches placed on the right side panel of the controller (a small blocks of 8, one block for each preset). The set of MODE DIP switches is placed on the left side panel. There are no processors or Flash memory so your settings cannot be lost. MFX PatchBay description: The MFX Patch Bay is designed to connect guitar effects to enable their remote switching with MFX Prog or MFX Remote controllers. Unlike other devices, the MFX Patch Bay uses relays instead of switches. Most switch based bypass and routing devices use components that are simply NOT DESIGNED for switching audio signals. The relays used in the MFX Patch Bay have been specially designed for switching audio signals so that there is minimal impact on your sound quality. MFX Patch Bay is divided into two sections: A and B. Each of these sections has a separate input and output and can control up to four effects or sets of effects. This functional division allows section A to be connected before preamp and section B to be connected in a guitar amplifier effect loop. With no plugs in section A’s output socket and section B’s sockets, both sections are cascaded together. Alternatively, Section A’s output and section B’s input B can be used also as an additional effect loop (e.g, to connect a volume pedal after distortion/overdrive effects but before modulation effects such as delay, chorus, flanger, etc.). Send and Return sockets for each effect loop are used to connect to guitar effects or series of effects. With the MFX Prog or MFX remote, it is possible to activate these effects loops. With an "MFX Prog" controller it is possible to activate one or more effect loops with one stomp. There is also a channel socket which is designed to replace the amplifier’s footswitch (normally used to switch between clean and overdrive channels). In this way, the amplifier’s channel switching function can also be controlled. Alternatively, this can be used to control another separate looper. Notice: It is strongly recommended that you fix the Patch Bay and effects to a board and place it in special case or rack to minimize cable and socket damage. The Patch-Bay is a part of MFX Remote or MFX Prog set. Also available (sample pictures)MFX Prog10 controller:MFX Prog10 custom patch-bay of 10 loops: EXAMPLES OF MFX PATCH BAY CONNECTION: 1. Price Paid: US $500 Ease of Use: 9Very easy to use and program (far easier than cryptic programming of midi devices). Setting up the patches took about 1 minute. The manual is a bit sparce - it could use some more explanation on some of the patchbay features (such as amp channel switching). Sound Quality: 9I'm using the following effects with the MFX programmable remote; Ibanez TS9DX turbo tube screamer, Boss CS3 Compressor, Mu-tron III envelop filter, Mu-tron wah/volume, Dunlop rotovibe, Boss TU12 tuner. The true bypassing feature of the MFX programmable remote has made a noticible reduction in the signal degradation that was previously caused by stringing all these effects together. Reliability: 8I've had 0 problems with it but I've only owned the unit for 1 week and only played 1 gig with it. From what I can tell, it is made with quality components and the construction appears to be very sturdy. The only thing that looks fragile is the 9-pin connections so securing the remote and the patch-bay to a pedal-board is a good idea. Customer Support: 10I was very impressed with the customer support. I had the unit customized by putting the footswitch into a smaller chasis. All email correspondences where very clear and concise and my questions were addressed very promptly (no issues with language barrier or time-zone difference). In spite of the customization to the unit, it was built and delivered very quickly. Overall Rating: 9I had been looking for some time to find a true bypass looper that would allow me to use various combinations of effects such that I could switch sounds by clicking 1 button and additionally would minimize the signal degradation caused by stomp-box effects. What I love about the Wobo product is that I get what I want and I don't have mess with digital/midi effects which are a pain to program and don't sound authentic to me. I would definately purchase other Wobo products based on this first experience. Submitted by DoubleDub at 03/12/2006 09:49 Price Paid: US $640.00 Ease of Use: 10Very easy to use once you fully understand how everything work...the footswitch and the program looper. At first I was a little worried and the Filip sent a very helpful email and it all came together nice.I love the unit and would buy another if it was stolen. Sound Quality: 10The sound quality going through this with my pedals make everything true-bypass so any Boss, Digitech, etc type pedal is now like a custom boutique true bypass grade pedal....very cool! Reliability: 10So far had it for a month and works awsome. I think since its all non midi my worries of my programs getting wiped out from a short of a glitch in the system are over. Dont need backup system. Customer Support: 10Couldnt ask for better support. Filip has basically walked me through every little piece of knowledge that I needed to fully understand how to hook up pedals, amp switching, etc. Overall Rating: 10So far this is exactly what I wanted to help my pedal problems and amp itching into an all in one system with footswith. Highly recomend checking out the website and asking Filip questions about a custome setup for youre particular needs. Submitted by John at 03/08/2006 08:07
