These SDMX are way more stable than older 1580S which are known to act funny sometimes because of it's overheating design due to the power supply and number of memory cards. AMS had redesigned the memory cards for the SDMX. S-DMX's use a newer type of memory board that consumes less power, so the unit runs cooler and there's less strain on the power supply.You can tell the unit don't generate so much heat by looking at the condition of the ribbon cables. Check them out, they are in excellent condition. The chassis is more rugged and has a better build quality than 1580s... Also, the Sdmx has a midi card built in, all you need is the adapter, available from Studio Electronics, CA. If you're after the legendary Ams delay sound ( Joy Division 's Martin Hannet , U2's The Edge, Prince 's Kiss ), this IS the unit you want to buy! These babies work like a charm and sound amazing !!!
