Description:
If French Horns were comparable to a bowl of soup: Let's say that a basic run of the mill horn was a bowl of high school cafeteria soup. We'll compare some of the nicer pro horns as a nice bowl of premium Cambell's Select... The horn you are bidding on would be a glorious smooth creamy bowl of deliciousness hand conjured by the likes of Chef Ramsay's original teacher!!! Up for auction is this highly desirable vintage Conn 8D double horn. Made in the late 1960’s this horn falls into the “A horn players MOST wanted list”. C.G. Conn Company dominated the musical instrument manufacture scene in the 50’s, 60’s, and very early 70’s. You might argue that the popularity and incredible quality of the company’s instruments is what did them in. It was later in the 1970’s that someone made the decision to take the advantage of the demand for the horns and move the factory to Texas, where they could improve the profit margins. The cost of the move was made cheaper by trashing all of the tooling for the instruments, and new tooling was made down in Texas…….. Not only did they not have the original tools, they lacked the original craftsman that had been 3rd and 4th generation horn makers. For obvious reasons, the instruments made in Texas lacked in quality. Here is your chance to actually own the real deal. A French horn made from the time that the Elkhart Craftsman were peaking in quality. A French horn made with techniques that were proven and not established to save money. A French horn made from tooling that had been tweaked and adjusted for many years to get to the exact point where the instruments were unparalleled. This horn is an H-Series made in 1966. It is in fantastic original condition as you will notice in the pictures. It maintains a majority of it's original lacquer and does not show signs of ever being seriously damaged. The bell has had some minor dent work rolled out, and the bell bow has had minor dings pushed out. The bell and leadpipe have NEVER been removed from the horn. Overall this horn is very solid. The valves are tight and feel great!! Now I've personally worked on and played MANY Elkhart 8D's since I've been in this business. Some of the horns can be described as "Eh, pretty good." Some "Oh wow, that's real nice." This horn would be more like a "Holy Cow!! This is Amazing!!!" That is no exaggeration. This is truly one of the finest examples of an original Elkhart 8D that I've ever had the chance to play. I will back this up with a full guarantee. If you are not satisfied that this horn plays as amazing as I describe you can return it for a full refund less shipping. I'll be glad to extend a 7 day trial period for this purpose. This also comes with the original Connstellation Hard case in very nice condition. Don't miss out on an opportunity to own just a treasure of a horn. This would make someone's Holiday Season one to remember!! Good luck and happy bidding!! :o)
