Description
Item Description For sale here is a collection of THREE semi-old Gibson Les Paul Custom models listed below. 1. 1978 Les Paul Custom with factory-original 3 T-Top pickups in natural 2. 1979 Les Paul Custom with factory-original 3 T-Top pickups in ebony 3. 1980 Les Paul Custom in ebony This is your rare opportunity to own the popular yet hard-to-find old Les Pauls. THREE OF THEM AT ONCE!! Below, I will go on and provide you with detailed item description for each of the guitars. Please check out the pictures as well and ask me questions that you may have. First, the 1978 blonde 3 bucker. ***Guitar One*** Model: 1978 GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM Pickups: DATED T-TOP x 3 Finish: BLONDE/NATURAL Serial #: 707985xx To the best of my knowledge, 1978 is "officially" the first year of the triple-PU LP Custom's comeback, and only 106 were shipped in that year (per Gibson's shipping ledger.) Apparently, most of them were in ebony and the natural/blonde finish like this one for sale is extremely difficult to find today. The guitar is 100% ORIGINAL except for the brass nut and one PU ring screw. The original three pickups all have the patent number impressed into the baseplate as well as a 1978 date ink-stamped on each. There are subtle flames spreading evenly over the center piece of the body top maple. The neck is almost as thin as the Classics, but it gets meaty as you move up towards higher positions. The cosmetic conditions are good for a guitar that's 30 years old. There are small and shallow indentations on the body top as well as on the sides. In the middle towards the treble side on the body back is belt scratches and in the small area along the edge the mahogany is exposed (pictured.) The body top binding wher the player's forearm makes contact is rolledFrom the neck heel up, it's also in good conditions with four or five small worn spots on the neck (the biggest ones pictured.) The hardware is worn and tarnished. The fret wires are 7.5 to 8 on a 10 scale from the low to mid positions. No breaks or repairs done to the guitar. It weighs 11.3lbs. It comes in a brand new Gator (?) LP hardshell case. They advertise these cases as "for Les Pauls" but the dimensions are a little too big for the model. But the case itself is very sturdy and I will stuff sufficient cushion around the body and headstock. ***Guitar Two*** Model: 1979 GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM Pickups: DATED T-TOP x 3 Finish: EBONY Serial #: 700396xx Pictured below is the 1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom with factory-installed three dated T-Top humbucking pickups. If you're a Page fan or simply in the market for a 3-pup Custom, then you definitely must be interested in this one. The price for an original 50's Custom has been out of reach for most people (including myself.) While the Historic Collection model is a well-built guitar, it possibly cannot have the 3 decades worth of time and vibration in the wood. On this guitar for sale here, the wood is already there and it requires only about the same amount of money as a Historic would, at least for now. The guitar is newly re-fretted and re-nut'ted, and the caps and strap pins have been replaced as well. Everything else appears to be original. I just had one of the well-known guitar craft shop perform the fret and nut replacing last week. Sure enough, the job is supurb and in fact the over-binding fret wires greatly increased playability over the original wire + binding nib construction. The new nut is made of born and the guitar now has a more clarified tone. I will throw in the original nut upon request. The guitar looks to have been gigged a lot. There are small, but many indentations on the top of the body with an increased extent of scratches around the volume/tone knobs. The body side shows more of play wear, especially around at the bottom. The jack plate is bent inward. Belt buckle rash is all over the back. The neck is relatively clean with surficial scratches, but the finish is worn around the 7th fret below the binding. The ebony fretboard is gouged between the D and G strings at the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th fret from fretting fingers (I'm sure there would've been a gouge at every low fret if there wasn't the pearl position markers.) At the top back edge of the headstock there's finish chipping. The clear lacquer has been ambered very much. The control knobs are nicely yellowed, too. The hardware is tarnished and worn, but as stated before, the fret wires are brand new. There's no breaks of repairs. Comes with a non-original, yet genuine Gibson hardshell case. Other than that the lid is painted black, it's in a good shape both cosmetically and functionally. ***Guitar Three*** Model: 1980 GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM Pickups: 70/80's TOKAI HUMBUCKERS Finish: EBONY Serial #: 83xx0633 The third piece of the collection is a ebony two-pup version. It's got a pair of Tokai humbuckers from the same era as the guitar itself. In the control cavity, I read those pot dates as 1378045 on both tone pots and 1378013 on one of the volume pots. This one just had a new bone nut as well as a new bridge unit installed last week at the same workshop as the above '79 model. Other than the pickups, nut and bridge, everything else is the original part from the factory. The neck is nice and big. As you can see, the guitar is in player's condition with all the dents and scratches all over the body and neck, plus there's an extra screw hole for a strap pin on the back of the body near the neck heel. It's been plugged and touched up (not a pro job.) The original wide low fret wires are 8/10 left for further use. The truss rod works fine. The weight measured by my digital spring balance is 9.85lbs. There is no history of breaks or repairs whatsoever. It comes in an old beat-up LP case which looks to be as old as the guitar (it has many stickers on it including one that says "Authorized Gibson Dealer 1980-1981." I tried my best to describe this guitar from the viewpoint of originality, and functional and cosmetic conditions as accurate as possible. Please bear in mind, however, I am no expert and not liable for any ignorant information the description may contain. To compensate for that, the listing is accompanied by a number of detailed photos to help you judge the guitar and make a purchasing decision. What you see in the pictures is/are what you will get.
