Description
This is a 2006, Paul Reed Smith, Private Stock (PS), Gary Grainger Signature, 5-string bass. It is a 34" scale neck and has a brass nut. It was recently upgraded by the factory with the new Grainger bass electrics which includes the newly designed circuit board and the push/pull volume pot. This bass has an active and a passive mode. This Grainger bass was also set-up by the PRS factory with a new set of Ken Smith taper core, nickel plated, round-wound strings (medium guage). The PS Brazilian Rosewood ramp was custom fit to this setup. The Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard is black and the bird inlay really shows clearly. The Brazilian Rosewood pickguard has a wonderful figure in its grain -- which is framed nicely by the PS exclusive Charcoal Burst finish. The finish is super thin satin nitro. The flamed maple top is one of the most dramatic I've seen and is certainly in the top 3 of my collection. The neck is a beatiful piece of flamed maple, as well. It is consistant from headstock to heel, as a Private Stock instrument should be. The bass includes the original case, which is also flawless. PRS Private Stock shop has stopped taking new orders until August of next year and the Brazilian rosewood is no longer available at all - through the Private Stock shop or regular production.
