The MA, sometimes called the 1A, is their premium instrument. I acquired this on May 13, 1992 from Shar music, a highly regarded dealer of string instruments in Ann Arbor Michigan. After 1999 I stopped playing the violin until late last year (I am primarily a guitarist) when I took it back up. I have acquired a more expensive instrument and now think that I will pass this on for another to enjoy. The instrument is in excellent well cared for condition. There are a few small nicks and the like but nothing serious. There are some marks to the varnish near the tail from changes I have made in chin rests, these can touched up by a future owner, they have not been a serious concern with me. It has had no repairs and needs none. Today from an established dealer one could expect to pay on the order of four thousand dollars for this model in this condition. Were I to consign it with Shar, which I have considered, they would take 30%. I am here offering it for less than I would get from them at some later point. The body length is 358 mm making it I believe, a Strad variation. The neck at the nut is 23 mm, very comfortable for the average hand. The top wood is a very nice, tight grained Spruce. The sides and back are a medium flamed Maple. Violins, of course, range in value from very slight to vast. One should understand that the description of the tonal quality of a given violin is not an absolute, but rather, a relative undertaking. That said, the tone of this instrument is strong and rich, though with a somewhat compact low end. A college bound student, a more advanced student, many would be quite happy with this instrument. Presently the instrument is strung with medium Thomastik Dominant strings. It includes the carrying case shown.
