1966 original Fender Stratocaster, great and affordable Start Price USD 9,750.00 Current Price USD 9,750.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, September 30, 2008 End Time Friday, October 10, 2008 Location Harrison, Arkansas See more about '1966 original Fender Stratocaster, great and affordable' Description This is a 1966 Fender Stratocaster, serial number 152251, in very good condition.  The neck reads ‘13 May 66 B’.  The original pots are coded 137-6514, corresponding to the 14th week of 1965.  The pickups are also all original.  The treble pickup reads 3-7-66; the middle pickup reads 3-25-66, and the rhythm pickup has no date.   There has been a shallow depth 1/32 of an inch routing made in about half of the rhythm pickup's cavity, as seen in the close-up.   The sides of the pickup routing is not affected.  There are also two small tiny holes in the original pickguard near the bridge where a Roland synthesizer pickup was once mounted.    The bridge saddles and all important hardware are original, including tuning keys, pickguard, and knobs, right down to the original strap buttons.  The selector switch is a 3-way, although it may not be the original.  There's some tampered solder joints and I would surmise that a previous owner installed a 5-way switch, and then switched back.  The guitar has been professionally re-fretted with correct size frets (fits the mid-1960's period) and thus it plays really great!   The neck shape is a soft 'C' shape, and is very, very comfortable.   The action is low, the neck is straight, and the guitar has been set up to play very well.   This guitar weighs a very comfortable and light 7 pounds, 12.8 ounces... It probably is made from alder wood as ash has a more pronounced grain pattern and thus can weigh heavier.   The original sunburst finish shows normal playing wear and finish checking, and the original finish on the back of the neck is nicely worn smooth, giving this vintage Strat a very nice vintage 'look' and comfortable playing feel.  It comes in a new modern Fender hard shell case.   This is a gigging instrument... ready to be taken back out on the road.
