I usually resist using terms such as time capsule, collectors quality, closet classic, museum quality etc. but if there ever was an item deserving of such terminology this is it!!!  STILL maintains its original lustre and shine!  Neck butt stamp reads Sept. 5 1966.   The serial number on the neckplate is 166701.  One tiny nick in the finish above neckplate just below neck heel (see pic).  Bottom of pickups are pen-inked dated 10-28-66. Wiring and solder joints unmolested with original pots--source codes 3046631=1966.  Often lost ashtrays (pickup and bridge covers) and thumbrest included.  The original hardshell case is in excellent condition with all latches working, no tears in the tolex (excepy a little on the ends/corners) no end splitting, original handle and none of the musty odor common to cases from this era.  FOR ADDITIONAL PICS OF THE WONDERFUL INSTREUMENT GO HERE : http://s151.photobucket.com/albums/s140/splungeviper/66%20P-bass/ Original pickgurd complete (including often lost/discarded shielding) and original as is the rest of the bass down to the original screws!  No checking. No heavy buckle wear on the back as would be expected for a guitar its age with the exception of a very small patch of minor buckle wear measuring only 1/2"x2".  Otherwise only light surface and a few tiny dings.  No breaks, checking or gouges.   The neck (which has nice woodgrain on the back) and Rosewood fretboard have no wear.
