Description
This is the last time that I will be listing this as a whole instrument on Ebay. We must get it out of our shop so I will be listing it in parts if it does not sell this time. The price has been greatly reduced! This wonderful pipe organ was built by M. P. Moller Pipe Organs in 1966 for the Chapel of the prestigious St. James' School in St. James, Maryland as their opus 10,279. St. James' School is the oldest Epsicopal Boarding School in the United States. The organ is being replaced with a new, larger pipe organ. This instrument was professionally removed from the Chapel in early June of last year and placed in storage in our climate controlled shop. This took five men almost a week and the cost of this removal is included in the price! At the time the organ was dismanteled, every note was working perfectly. Digital MP3 recordings were made of every stop and of the entire instrument. These can be accessed using links available further down in this description. This organ was professionally maintained and used for chapel services 6 days per week since it was installed. There is no damage of any kind to any of the pipework, console or mechanism. The organ consists of Two Manuals and Pedal and contains 14 Ranks of pipes, including an unusual Brass Trumpet En Chamade of 61 reed pipes. The entire organ plays on 3 " of wind pressure and it is beautifully voiced. The console has real ivory covered, 61 note keyboards with ebony sharps and the pedal board contains maple naturals with ebony capped sharps. The stop list is as follows: Great: 8' Principal, 8' Gedeckt, 8' Viola (from Swell), 4' Octave, II-IV Mixture and 8' Trompete Real. Couplers are Great 4', Swell to Great 16' Swell to Great 8' and Swell to Great 4'. Swell: 8' RohrFlote, 8' Viola, 4' Spitz Principal, 4' RohrFlote (extension), 2 2/3' Nazard, 2' Spitzoctav (extension), 8' Schalmei and Tremulant. Couplers are Swell 16', Swell Unison Off and Swell 4'. Pedal: 16' Bourdon, 16' Rohr Gedeckt (extended from Swell), 8'Octave (from Great Principal), 8' Bassflote (extended from Bourdon), 4' Octave (from Great Principal), 4' Flote (from Swell). Couplers are Great to Pedal, Swell to Pedal and Swell to Pedal 4'. The Console has a balanced Swell Pedal and a Balanced Crescendo Pedal as well as General and Divisional pistons and a Sforzando reversible. The console does not require wind and works from Moller's all electric switches. As can be seen in the photos, console, lower portion of the Great and the Swell division were encased in a wooden, raised panel case that was painted colonial green to match the interior of the chapel. The Great case is included in the sale of the organ but the decorative panels that enclosed the swell are not available. The swell shade frames and shades are also included in the sale but the Moller individual swell motors were discarded. They can easily be replaced with an electric swell motors so long as new cleats and traces are made to move the shades. The dimensions of the great are as follows: 175" Wide, 65" deep and 188" from the floor to the top of the tallest pipe. The great chests sit 72" from the floor and could be lowered by the buyer if a reduction in height is required. This will, of course, require modifications to the great casework. The swell was in a tapered chamber that was 124" high at the front and 84" high at the back. It was 178" long and 84" wide but could fit in a chamber that is 130" long and 70" wide. The wind chest for the En Chamade Trumpet is 175" long, 24" deep and 9 1/2" high. The organ ran from a pneumatic relay and switching system that was typical of Moller in the 1960's and this WAS NOT SAVED. It would have cost as much to restore and re-wire it as it will cost to replace this with a new, solid state switching system. We did not keep the original blower. It was a large, slow speed Kinetic Blower that was noisy and had to be placed far from the organ. We will supply a very nice, recently rebuilt, 1hp Miedinger Silent Blower with the instrument. The organ utilizes 7 reservoirs (Moller's usual formula of 2 stops per reservoir) and these, along with all of the organ's other components are included in the sale. While the organ was working perfectly when it was removed, we cannot guarantee that it will continue to do so in the future. It is 41 years old and should be releathered before it is installed in a new home. I would also recommend that a new combination action and switching system be installed. While none of these items is included in this listing, we would be pleased to provide an estimate for doing this work to any serious potential bidders. Our firm has restored and rebuilt many Moller pipe organs over the past 20 years and we provide releathering services to some of America's most noteworthy organ builders. This organ is being sold "as is, where is". The successful bidder may come to our shop in Lancaster County Pennsylvania to pick-up this organ. The pipe trays in which the pipes are now stored are included in the sale price. We can arrange for packing the instrument into a 24' truck and delivering it anywhere in the continental USA for $3.00 per mile ($500.00 minimum, unloading will be the buyer's responsibility). We can also provide the successful bidder with a price for restoring the instrument and installing it in your location with a new organ warranty. A 10% DEPOSIT IS EXPECTED TO BE PAID WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE END OF THE AUCTION. The balance is due within 30 days or before the organ leaves our shop. This is a very fine instrument that would cost about $250,000.00 to purchase new today. Below is a list of MP3 files of the organ which you may download and hear. We are not organists but have done our best to provide an indication of how the organ sounded in the room. Simply click on the title to begin the download. Be sure to turn-up your speakers.
