Description
This is a 1965 Fender Jazz bass, serial number 109062, in very good original condition. The neck is dated OCT 65 and reads 7OCT65A. All three pot codes read 137-6542, which corresponds to the 42nd week of 1965. All solder joints appear to be totally original and un-tampered with. Also, all parts and hardware on this bass appear to be totally original, right down to the strap buttons. The original nitrocellulose tortoise shell pickguard is also in very good condition. The original sunburst finish shows normal playing wear and some belt buckle wear. When removing the bridge cover as seen in the close-up, one notices how some of the red finish has slightly faded over the years. We removed one of the pickup caps to show that the original pickup (seen in the close-up) still has the pre-CBS era copper-colored windings. The pickups and the pickguard apparently have never been unscrewed, because they are stuck to the body. Also, the pickguard screws are corroded enough that it could strip the screw heads to forcibly remove them, so we didn’t. The neck pickup measures 7.41K ohms and the bridge pickup measures 7.28K ohms. The previous owner gigged with this bass practically every weekend for the past 30 years, so it has lots of ‘mojo’ and I'm not disturbing anything more, having just unscrewed the control plate, the neck, and one pickup from the body to gather information for this listing. This bass still has its original cover plates for the bridge and neck pickups. Even the thumb rest appears to have never been taken off! The neck plays great, although the original frets do show some wear; The bass does not warrant a re-fret. The plastic pearloid dot position markers on the fingerboard have yellowed with age and appear at first glance to be the old brown clay dot inlays used in the early 60’s. The discoloration of the white plastic position markers is perhaps from years of smoke-filled bar rooms, although having cleaned some of the dirt off this bass, there is no smoky odor. The previous owner indicated that the original case was discarded some time ago, having been heavily used, so we are selling this bass in a nice mid-70’s Fender hardshell case with the raised Fender logo. There are no issues with this bass. It weighs a moderate 9 pounds, 8.2 ounces, and is very lively in tone. We offer a 24-hour approval period with money-back guarantee, excluding shipping costs, so feel free to bid with confidence.
