This guitar has CF Martin IV signature on the inside of the sound hole. It does not come with any authenticity stating that it is his signature, but the signature is very old.  Serial number 162309. The soundboard is sitka spruce and the back and sides are Brazilian Rosewood. The neck is mahogany, and the fingerboard, and bridge are ebony. 1958 was the first year Martin put Grover Rotomatic tuners on their 28's.      This guitar is in very good condition for it's age. The guitar has some play wear, some finish checking, and there are a few places where the finish is worn through to the wood. There are also a few small dings, and small scuffs. All of which adds great character to this instrument. As far as repairs go. This guitar has had a pro neck reset, a filled strap hole on the top of the neck heel, the bridge is a replica (the original is included), and the pick-guard has been reglued.  The only crack that I see is the one  next to the pick-guard and it is very stable it doesn't move at all.     This D-28 has a very solid sound. You really can't replicate the authentic sound of a vintage Martin. The aged Brazilian rosewood just has the perfect tone. This one is perfectly balanced and projects very well. The neck is a comfortable medium V profile. The playability is smooth and right at home.
