Description
An extremely rare and desirable Larson Brothers Maurer guitar. Uncirculated and first time offered for sale. This guitar is all original with it's original case. An online appraisal was done by GRUHN GUITARS of Nashville, Tennessee on July 8, 2008 and reads as follows: I have examined the attached emailed digital photos of the instrument described below, but have not seen the instrument itself. Below is my estimate, based on these photos, of the instrument's value; however, it is not possible to judge from photos alone the exact state of originality and need of repair, so my appraisal is only accurate insofar as the photos are representative of the actual condition of the instrument. We certify that the guitar described below is, in our opinion, a Maurer brand 16 inch jumbo made by the Larson Brothers in Chicago during the mid to late 1930's. DESCRIPTION: We have been provided the following description: "Maurer(in and oval with hard to read trade mark and usa) Serial number 41532 Pat July 12, 1904 Body is 16" across the lower bout. There are no cracks in the top, back, sides or neck. The bridge has split at the pins for strings 6-5-4. The guitar appears to be in very good shape with little play wear and the original case." This guitar appears to be in very fine condition, although based on the owner's description it apparently will need work on the bridge. It features a 16-inch wide jumbo body, spruce top, Braziian rosewood back and sides, 14-fret slot-head laminated mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard with dot inlays, and white binding on the edges of the fingerboard as well as the top and back of the body. The Larson Brothers are noted as some of the finest builders of pre-World War II flattop guitars. This is a guitar which would be of considerable interest to collectors as well as musicians. Current market value:$30,000 (thirty thousand dollars). Please contact me for additional info or pictures. US buyers only. Paypal, US money orders or certified checks only. Shipping choice to be decided by the buyer at a flat rate of $75.00. Personal delivery is possible within a reasonable driving distance.
