Description
1927 Gibson Florentine Plectrum Banjo Mint Condition, Made in USA Kalamazoo, MI Comes with hardshell case that is not the original. Expert restoration done in 1980 by Renee Karnes under Master Henry Lea including new neck and tuners. (comes with original tuners) Advertised as "The worlds finest, most luxurious banjo" This model epitomizes the flamboyant aesthetic of the jazz age with its hand carved neck and resonator sporting the coat of arms of Florence Italy, Pearloid fingerboard with scenes of renaissance Venice. The Celluloid overlaid peghead is adorned with multi-colored rhinestones in what collectors call the "Ice Cream Cone" pattern (actually intended to be a boquete of flowers). Gold plated and engraved bronze "40 hole" archtop tone-ring, "Tube & Plate" flange, tension hoop and "Clamshell" tailpiece with the word "Florentine." This model was introduced in 1927 and discontinued in the mid 1930's. A museum piece of American history. I have many more pictures but cannot get them to upload... just let me know and I can send them to you and/or answer any questions you may have.
