1762 Antique Louis Guersan Violin Phenomenal condition Start Price USD 5,000.00 Current Price USD 5,000.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Wednesday, July 02, 2008 End Time Saturday, July 12, 2008 Location New York, New York See more about '1762 Antique Louis Guersan Violin ' Description Louis Guersan Violin 1762 Antique French Very Good Condition     Up for auction is an original antique violin made by Louis Guersan in 1762.  This violin is in great playable condition and has a wonderful tone.  Guersan was an innovator in violin and stringed instrument construction.  Louis Guersan was the leading instrument maker in in the middle of the 18th C., appreciated as much for his exquisite hand as for the tone of his instruments.  His instruments are rare.  He used a wide variety of finishes which produced drastic differences in tone and volume.  Some of his violins have reached prices of $15,000 to $25,000 in US and overseas auction house auctions.  This is a fine example of his work.  The top is a nice tight grained spruce and the book matched back and sides have moderate to high flame.  The neck has high flame and the fingerboard is perfect.  There are a few top cracks which have been repaired throughout the years.  Also there is a small amount of spruce missing from the perfling to the edge as well as about an inch of the perfling itself on the top next to the treble side of the neck (see pic).  This is a purely cosmetic flaw and in no way effects the tone of the violin.  The original Guersan label is still affixed inside the instrument and I have done my best to get a good shot of it.  It reads: "Ludovicus Guersan prope Comaediam Gallicam Lutetiae Anno 1762".  This is an original 1762 violin, this is not a modern copy.  Based on the few cosmetic flaws this violin is at a very reasonable starting and reserve.  The item is being sold as is.  Insurance is included in the shipping price.  Please ask many questions.
