FINE OLD VARAGNOLO FERRUCCIO ITALIAN LABEL VIOLIN . . . The quality of this Fine Violin is obvious at first site; just note: splendid choice of Tonewood, and finesse of detailed workmanship. . The top table is made of two piece fine grained spruce with superbly executed purfling, precise corners, and finely cut "F" holes. The back table, sides and neck are made of bold flamed maple. Very expressive scroll is beautifully carved. . Size: 4/4 Dimensions: Overall Length = 593mm. Body length = 358 mm. Width: UB. = 165 mm. MB.= 112 mm. LB.= 205 mm. . REPAIRS: This violin has a few visable past repairs: - A 4.5 inch long center seem closed hair line under the tail piece - 3.5 closed saddle hair line on the right of the tail piece. - The button was repaired in the past - done well. - There are two short hardly visible hair lines on each "F" 's - stable. - Minor edge work. Violin displays various nicks, dings scratches and the varnish ware all around - normal for used instrument. .In all - this violin is in good state of preservation and in a playing condition. . This violin plays with ease - well balanced on all the strings; and up and down the finger board. The sound is warm and full. The tone is big, sonorous, and focused. This violin is very responsive, and it projects with great power. . I bought this violin from family of a violin impresario and collector. I didn't get bill of sale, or certificate with it; and I don't have any to pass down to you. The gentleman who collected these violins was very old, and had been collecting them for many years. He looked at it carefully and thoughtfully for a long time without any comments. Than he played it for about 15 minutes all the while putting it trough hell. When I finally asked: "What do we have here?" His reply was: "You have here very nice violin. It sounds very good." Then he reached for his check book and asked me if I'll take: $1,800 for it.
